2021 Update

Hi, friends. There hasn’t been much to share on this site.

(If you found this site recently through Greg Dennison’s “Don’t Let The Days Go By,” keep reading the rest of this post, then read the “About” page to learn more about what this is.)

I don’t want to say Cow Chip & Lance is dead. CCL has been part of my life since my teens. But I’ve just been busy with real life and other projects the last couple years. It’s hard to get my people together to do voices, especially with so many of my voice actors having moved away or moved on to new phases of their lives.

I’m not really sure what the future of CCL looks like at this point. I always had some ideas in the back of my mind about what would happen at the end of the series, and with CCL having been around for so long, I feel like it at least deserves to have those final episodes made. Hopefully someday.

In the meantime, I’m going to take down all the 25th anniversary logos from 2018 that are still on this site. And in the absence of new content, I’m going to start uploading some of the old non-animated Series II episodes from the 90s and early 2000s. If you haven’t read those before, then from your perspective, it’s new content.

Finally… as I said above, our friend Greg, who has done some work for us behind the scenes over the years, has a creative project called “Don’t Let The Days Go By,” set in the 90s, and his character sometimes works on creative projects in his spare time. So Greg is adding to his story a creative project with a back story based on that of Cow Chip & Lance, so we can link to each other. Enjoy!

New episode! … and some thoughts, from Dennis

When I created Cow Chip & Lance 25 years ago, I was in high school, and I was trying to create something along the lines of the great buddy comedies of my teens, particularly Beavis and Butthead and Wayne’s World.  But as CCL evolved over the years, it started in some ways to resemble an ensemble comedy more than just a buddy comedy.  (continue reading below video)

The stories mostly continued to revolve around Cow Chip and Lance, but often times their friends and others around them played an important role in the story as well.  The number of main characters grew from two to six, as the boys became part of a circle of friends with Wilson, Kelly, Alex, and Sarah.  Other Gief High students, as well as Gief High staff, neighbors, and other people around town also became part of the stories.

I have always wanted to occasionally explore the other characters more.  I don’t get to do this often, considering how infrequently I produce new episodes for this site.  I have a very demanding day job, as do most of the voice cast members, and it takes some work to get one of these done, even as crudely animated as it is.  This episode is a departure from the regular format, in that the main story revolves around Kelly more than it does around the boys.  I hope to continue to do this every once in a while, to explore more of the characters in the CCLverse beyond just the two title characters.

There have been some casting changes.  Hali Bergeron, a newcomer to the CCL family, will be playing Kelly, and Hannah Schumacher, who previously has voiced a one-time character (Rachael in #8), will be taking over the parts of both Sarah and Haley.  We here at Cow Chip & Lance wish the best to Nicole Emmerichs, Ellie Davidson, and Haley Payne (Fremer) as they continue other pursuits in life; they will always be part of the CCL family.

I have also been gradually adding more character biographies for those of you still learning your way around the CCLverse.

With all that said… enjoy the new episode!

Changes, and New Episode Coming Soon!

We’ve had a lot going on here at Cow Chip & Lance.  Life has a funny way of getting in the way of plans.  And with us being a small production, being made just for fun and not making any money, changes in people’s lives affect us more.

We’ve had a few casting changes.  We’ve had a lot of glitches to overcome with the next episode.

But it’s almost done.  There will definitely be new content coming very soon… meaning within the next few days. Stay tuned.

Hey, you! Are you free for the next two hours?

We made a playlist where you can binge watch EVERY EPISODE of Cow Chip & Lance. Since there hasn’t been any new content for a while, you can revisit all the old content.

There will be new content eventually.  We’ve been taking a break, but we’re ready to start working on stuff again.

#2, #3, #4 uploaded

Episodes 2, 3, and 4 have all been uploaded to the YouTube channel.  Remember, these episodes were originally produced in an obsolete video format and converted to their current format in order to upload, and in this process, the sound and animation seem to have gotten a bit out of sync.  I apologize for this, but it’s the best I can do for now.  Maybe I’ll fiddle and try to find a way to fix it later, but that would require changing the links yet again, which I’ve done a lot of in the last two days, and I’d rather move on and do other more important stuff first.

I will eventually have to re-upload #8 as well, for similar reasons.  But I’m going to work on #5 through #7 first.

New site!

This is NOT the big Cow Chip & Lance news you were probably hoping for this summer.  Specifically, this is not an announcement about Episode 9.  It will happen, eventually, just not as soon as I’d hoped.

(By the way, if you see this line right here, I’m not quite done with this.  Keep checking back.)

Instead, I’ve started working on the overhaul of the site.  I will be gradually moving content from the old site to the new site over the next several months.  What you need to notice right now is that the URL has changed.  We’ve dropped the hyphen.  The new URL will be www.cowchipandlance.com.  The old URL, www.cowchip-lance.com, and all emails at that domain will still work at least until November 2015, and possibly through November 2016, depending on how quickly I get stuff moved and redone for the new site.  Soon, I will be updating the old website for the final time, with a message explaining that the old site is not maintained anymore and a link to this new site.

Here’s the first post to the new site: Cow Chip & Lance #1 from 2008, converted into a Youtube-friendly format.  Episodes 2 through 7 will be uploaded in the coming days.  (#8 is already here and already Youtube-friendly.)

(Disclaimer: The process of converting this to another format seems to have gotten the sound and video a little out of sync.  It’s the best I could do.  Also, in going through these old CCL videos, I have noticed that some people who worked on this have cut ties with me, or with each other, since the publication of this video.  Instead of trying, for example, to edit people out of my life, I’m just leaving the videos there as they always were.)
