About

Cow Chip & Lance is a series of animated films about the adventures of two unusual teenagers and their crazy friends, created by Dennis G. Simmons in 1993.

There have been three distinct Cow Chip & Lance series, with some degree of continuity between each one, as well as a few side projects:

  • Series I consisted of eight animated shorts produced between 1993 and 1995. These are currently very rare, existing only on two or three VHS tapes floating around the world somewhere. (Dennis has one of them but isn’t sure if it still works.)
  • Series II was not animated; 76 illustrated stories were written and produced between 1996 and 2007. These will be posted on this site throughout the spring and summer of 2021, under the heading “Classic Episodes.”
  • Series III, the current series, is animated. The first episode was released in late 2008, and it will occasionally feature remakes of stories from the previous series.  Series III is currently (as of 2021) on indefinite hiatus.

Cow Chip & Lance side projects include:

  • A live-action 30-minute film from 1997. This featured different actors than all the animations (although a few people, such as Dennis, appear in both playing different characters). A sequel was begun the following year but not finished. There are many more VHS copies of this one floating around, about 12 of them, and Dennis believes he once made a digital copy but can’t find it on his old computer. It might have been backed up on a DVD-R somewhere.
  • A board game, first released in 1998 and modified a few times to reflect changing storylines. This is still in production. Dennis hosted a tournament at his house every year from 2009 to 2018; this may resume eventually.
  • Two computer games for Windows 98, released in 1999 and 2000. These were the only projects during the Series II era that had voice acting, and some of that cast reprised their roles for Series III.
  • A comic book, produced in 2001. Only one issue was produced, with maybe six copies out there somewhere. Dennis knows right where his copy is, but he has not decided if it will ever see the light of day on this site.

So sit back and enjoy all the craziness of this site. Watch the most recent episode. Or start with the old ones or the archives (once those get posted). And don’t forget to leave feedback!
